Urbana, IL – A child escaped an alleged luring attempt Tuesday afternoon in Urbana, prompting an active police investigation. Urbana patrol officers responded to the area of Kinch and Michigan avenues around 3:54 p.m. after a suspect allegedly tried to lure a child walking home from school around 3:30 p.m. by offering candy. The child ignored repeated questions and safely reached home before notifying a parent, who contacted police.
According to the Urbana Police Department, officers canvassed the area for the suspect, described as a man driving a dark or black SUV. Authorities are asking residents in the area to review any surveillance footage from the 2000, 2100, 2200, or 2300 blocks of East Michigan Avenue. Anyone with footage or information is urged to contact the police department’s non-emergency number at 217-384-2320.
