Marquette, Michigan – Light lake-effect snow is moving across Upper Michigan this morning, with cold temperatures and slick conditions expected to impact travel through tonight.
According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, northwest wind snow belts will see intermittent snow showers throughout Sunday, with a light dusting possible in higher terrain. High temperatures will struggle between 30 and 42 degrees, keeping road surfaces cold enough for patchy accumulation, especially along M-28 and US-41.
Snow activity will gradually shift east and taper off late tonight, but temperatures will drop sharply after sunset. Overnight lows are expected to fall between 14 and 24 degrees, increasing the risk of refreezing on untreated roads, bridges, and sidewalks.
Cities including Marquette, Houghton, and Munising may see brief visibility reductions during passing snow showers. Drivers should watch for sudden slick spots, particularly in shaded areas and elevated surfaces.
Conditions improve Monday with drier weather and highs in the 40s, followed by a warming trend into the 50s and 60s by midweek. Until then, residents should allow extra travel time, reduce speeds in snow showers, and prepare for icy conditions overnight as temperatures plunge.
