Urbana, IL – A sexual assault was reported early Sunday at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. The incident took place at 1:30 a.m. in a residence hall after the victim met the alleged perpetrator at a party.

According to the University Police, they received the report and issued a campus-wide safety notice on Monday, encouraging students to take precautions. The university emphasized its commitment to supporting survivors and preventing future incidents.

The safety notice urges students to be aware of their surroundings, avoid isolated areas, and walk in groups when possible. In addition, the university encourages bystanders to intervene in unsafe situations and report any suspicious behavior.

Students who are concerned can reach out to the Student Assistance Center for help or access the Emergency Dean Program after hours. The university also offers resources for survivors through its We Care program, which promotes sexual assault awareness and prevention.

The university stressed that survivors are never at fault, and it remains dedicated to fostering a safe campus environment.
