Normal, IL – Two people were shot during a pop-up party with over 1,000 attendees near Illinois State University early Sunday morning. The gathering took place near the intersection of University and Locust Streets and led to gunfire around 3:29 a.m.
Normal and Illinois State University Police responded to reports of the shooting. The unsanctioned event, which began in a park and moved to a gas station, was not organized or approved by the university. Two victims were transported to a hospital with gunshot wounds.
According to the ISU Police Department, the large gathering caused disruptions to local businesses and residential areas. They emphasized that unpermitted parties on public property damage both public and private property and strain resources.
