Bradley, IL – Bradley-Bourbonnais Community High School (BBCHS) went into lockdown early Friday morning after reports surfaced that two non-students allegedly planned to attack a student on campus. The threat, which was reported around 7:15 a.m., led to an immediate response from Bradley Police.
According to Bradley Police, two suspects identified as Deshawn K. Rahman, 20, and a 17-year-old male juvenile were taken into custody by 7:22 a.m. after authorities received a tip about their alleged plan to attack a student with a weapon on a school bus. A lockdown was initiated as a precaution while police searched the suspects and the school, but no weapon was found. The lockdown was lifted at approximately 8:30 a.m., though authorities are continuing to investigate the incident.
Bradley-Bourbonnais Principal Dr. Evan Tingley sent a letter to the community explaining the situation, noting that despite the lack of a weapon, the threat caused significant concern. Rumors spread quickly on social media, amplifying the anxiety among students and parents. The heightened fears resulted in low student attendance throughout the day, with many parents choosing to keep their children at home.
Rahman and the juvenile face charges of aggravated assault, criminal trespass to state-supported property, and disorderly conduct related to a school threat.
Due to the low turnout, BBCHS canceled the homecoming parade that was originally planned for Friday afternoon. However, the homecoming football game and dance will proceed as scheduled, with extra police officers present to ensure safety. A modified version of the parade will take place during halftime between the sophomore and varsity football games.
While the immediate threat was neutralized, the school community remains on edge, with many parents expressing frustration over the initial lack of information about the incident. School officials have promised to keep families updated as more details become available.
