Kankakee, IL – Kankakee School District 111 heightened security Friday after receiving threats in the wake of the Bradley-Bourbonnais Community High School (BBCHS) lockdown. Earlier in the day, BBCHS went into lockdown following a reported threat involving non-students.
By late Friday, a Kankakee school began receiving phone calls about potential threats to their own staff and students. District Superintendent Dr. Teresa A. Lance reassured parents that, as of now, these threats have been deemed unfounded. Out of an abundance of caution, additional police officers were requested to be present during dismissal.
Dr. Lance acknowledged the concern among students and parents, especially after many usaw the initial BBCHS threat circulating on social media. The district urged families to remain calm and assured them that any necessary updates would be communicated promptly.
Kankakee schools have also offered emotional support services for students affected by the situation. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available from district officials and law enforcement.
This is a developing story.
