Ionia County, MI – Authorities are investigating the death of a 15-year-old girl found in her Danby Township home late Wednesday. Deputies responded to a 9 p.m. 911 call that reported the teen missing, along with a firearm.
According to the Ionia County Prosecutor’s Office, deputies found the girl deceased with the firearm next to her. A single gunshot was reported. The girl was pronounced dead at the scene.
Ionia County’s Child Death Review Team is handling the investigation alongside local law enforcement. This team consists of law enforcement officials, the Prosecutor’s Office, and the Medical Examiner’s Office. They are also joined by Child Protective Services, the DHHS, and medical advisors.
Every child death in Ionia County is carefully reviewed. As of now, there are no further details, and the investigation remains ongoing.
