Charleston, WV – Residents in the middle Ohio Valley and the central Appalachians should prepare for severe thunderstorms and excessive rainfall as a thunderstorm complex moves into the region by sunset. The primary severe weather threats include damaging wind gusts, with potential for hail and tornadoes in the western areas.

According to the US National Weather Service Charleston, WV, the threat will diminish as the storm moves eastward tonight. Marginal risks for severe weather and excessive rainfall persist into Friday and Friday night, with additional showers and thunderstorms expected. The middle Ohio Valley and Tug Fork areas have a slight risk for excessive rainfall, and damaging wind gusts remain the main threat.

These weather conditions are predicted to shift east on Saturday, as a cold front arrives from the west. Residents in affected areas should stay alert and take necessary precautions to ensure safety.

The severe weather outlook includes heavy rainfall potentially leading to flooding, especially in low-lying areas. Wind gusts could cause power outages and property damage. Hail and tornadoes, although less likely, are also possible and could result in more severe impacts.
