Texas wakes up to steady rain tapping rooftops and pooling along curbs in Houston. The air feels saturated, and roads are already slick as conditions begin to worsen through the morning.

According to the National Weather Service, Houston, Sugar Land, The Woodlands, and Baytown are under a Flood Watch through late tonight, with repeated rounds of showers and thunderstorms expected. The most intense rainfall targets the window from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., when storms may produce several inches of rain in a short period.

This is part of a broader system stalled over Texas and the Lower Mississippi Valley, pulling deep Gulf moisture inland and fueling continuous storm development.

Heavy rain rates could quickly overwhelm drainage systems, especially along I-45, I-10, and Beltway 8. Low-lying streets, underpasses, and flood-prone neighborhoods may see water rise rapidly within minutes. Urban flooding is the primary concern, with creeks and bayous also at risk of rising through the day.

Drivers should expect reduced visibility, sudden ponding, and potential road closures during heavier bursts. Isolated thunderstorms may also produce gusty winds and lightning, adding to travel hazards.

Rain continues into tonight before gradually easing early Saturday. Conditions improve quickly this weekend, with sunshine returning Saturday afternoon and highs climbing into the 70s, then upper 70s to low 80s by Sunday and Monday.

Looking ahead into next week, warmer and more stable conditions take hold, though additional storm chances may return midweek.

Avoid water-covered roads, plan for significant travel delays through the afternoon, and stay alert for rapidly changing conditions as heavy rain continues across Houston.
