Canyon, Texas – A rare tornado tracked over the Canyon area late Friday night, causing significant damage but leaving no injuries or fatalities in its wake. The storm touched down south of Hunsley Road, tracking north before making a sudden turn west and then curving back to the southwest. This unusual path was confirmed by both damage patterns and radar data, according to the National Weather Service.
The tornado, which struck between 11:32 p.m. and 11:37 p.m., was rated EF1 on the Enhanced Fujita scale, with peak winds reaching 110 mph. It traveled a path just under a mile in length, affecting the neighborhood around Madison Park and the area near Freedom Fellowship Church.
In its wake, the tornado caused roof damage to several homes, along with some damage to fencing and trees. Thankfully, the quick-moving storm spared lives, as no fatalities or injuries were reported. Local officials and emergency responders are assessing the full scope of damage and providing support to affected residents.
As of now, no further warnings are in effect, but residents are advised to remain aware of any updated weather advisories from the National Weather Service.
