West Memphis, AR – A Texas construction worker was killed Wednesday night when a police chase on Interstate 55 ended in tragedy.
Justin Delgado, 36, of Lola, Texas, died after a suspect’s maroon Corvette struck him in a construction zone. The West Memphis Police Department began pursuing the suspect after a traffic stop on East Broadway. The suspect fled at high speed and entered I-55 South near the three-mile mark.
According to Arkansas State Police, Delgado was working with the Arkansas Department of Transportation when the Corvette hit him and another worker. The second worker remains in critical condition at Regional One Health Hospital in Memphis.
Police later found the suspect’s car engulfed in flames on West McKellar Avenue in Memphis. The suspect remains at large. The Arkansas State Crime Laboratory will determine the cause of death. The investigation is ongoing.
