Midland, Texas – Triple-digit temperatures are expected to bake much of West Texas on Sunday, with the National Weather Service warning of a high risk of heat-related illness for anyone outdoors from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. CDT.

According to the National Weather Service in Midland/Odessa, heat advisories cover a wide swath of West Texas and southeastern New Mexico, including cities like Midland, Odessa, Pecos, Fort Stockton, Marfa, and Alpine. Highs could reach 107°F in Midland and 104°F in Brewster and Culberson counties. Even high-elevation areas like the Guadalupe and Davis Mountains are under advisories, with temperatures climbing to 98°F.

Extreme heat can be dangerous and even deadly. Officials urge residents to avoid strenuous outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours, drink plenty of water, and check on elderly neighbors. Those working outside should take frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments.

Car interiors will heat up rapidly — never leave children or pets unattended. Pet owners are also reminded to bring animals indoors or provide plenty of water and shade.

Heat advisories are expected to remain in effect through 9 p.m. CDT. Additional alerts may be issued if conditions worsen.
