Presidio, Texas – Brutal heat is bearing down on far West Texas as temperatures soar to 115°F across Presidio Valley and Lower Brewster County this afternoon, prompting urgent safety warnings through 9 p.m. CDT Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service in Midland/Odessa, a Heat Advisory remains in effect for the region—including Big Bend National Park, Lajitas, and Castolon—between 1 p.m. and 9 p.m. CDT. Officials warn the combination of intense sun and extreme heat will create dangerous conditions, especially for anyone working or recreating outdoors.

Residents are urged to stay indoors, avoid strenuous activity, and hydrate frequently—even if not thirsty. OSHA recommends taking regular breaks in shade or air-conditioned spaces for outdoor laborers. Local hospitals historically see a spike in heat-related emergencies during similar stretches, particularly among vulnerable populations.

Car interiors can turn deadly in minutes—residents are reminded to never leave children or pets inside vehicles. Pets should also be kept indoors or provided ample shade and water.

This is the highest heat of the season so far for parts of the Trans-Pecos region. Temperatures are expected to ease slightly Monday, but more heat alerts may follow if conditions persist.
