Seattle, WA – A wave of early June heat is gripping western Washington, with temperatures soaring into the 90s Sunday and Monday—especially in the Cascade valleys—posing health and safety risks across the Puget Sound region.

According to the National Weather Service in Seattle, a Heat Advisory remains in effect from 10 a.m. Sunday to 10 p.m. Monday, covering much of King, Pierce, Snohomish, Thurston, Lewis, and Kitsap counties. Highs will climb between 85 and 90 degrees, with Cascade foothills hitting 95, while overnight lows may stay in the 60s—offering little relief.

Cities including Seattle, Everett, Tacoma, Olympia, and Marysville could see increased risk of heat exhaustion, especially for vulnerable populations without access to cooling. Residents are urged to stay hydrated, avoid strenuous activity in the afternoon, and check on neighbors and pets.

Despite the heat, local rivers and lakes remain dangerously cold—with water temps in the 40s and 50s. This sharp contrast increases the risk of cold shock and drowning, especially for swimmers not wearing life jackets.

The advisory may extend if conditions persist. Visit wa211.org for cooling center information, and stay tuned to local alerts through Monday evening.
