Lawrenceburg, Tenn. – Residents in portions of southern Middle Tennessee should move to higher ground immediately as flash flooding continues to threaten parts of Wayne and Lawrence counties through early Sunday evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Nashville, a Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 6:30 p.m. CDT Sunday for portions of Wayne and Lawrence counties. Floodwaters may rapidly cover roads, low-lying areas and small streams, creating life-threatening travel conditions.
The warning includes communities such as Lawrenceburg, Collinwood, Westpoint, Saint Joseph, Loretto, Leoma, Five Points and Ethridge. More than 38,000 residents, along with 14 schools and one hospital, are located within the warned area.
Officials urge residents to avoid walking or driving through floodwaters. Even shallow water can hide washed-out pavement or carry away vehicles. If flooding threatens your location, move immediately to higher ground and stay away from creeks, drainage ditches and flooded roadways.
Motorists should expect possible road closures and delays on local highways and secondary roads across Wayne and Lawrence counties. Emergency responders may have limited access to flooded areas until water begins to recede.
The National Weather Service reminds residents to “Turn Around, Don’t Drown.” Continue monitoring weather alerts until the warning expires, as additional flood warnings could be issued if heavy rainfall persists or flooding worsens.
