Teen Girl Killed in Minneapolis Hit-and-Run; Driver Arrested on Murder Charges

Minneapolis, MN — A 16-year-old girl was killed early Saturday in a hit-and-run crash at 5th Street North and Hennepin Avenue. The crash, which also injured five others, occurred at approximately 12:23 a.m.

Police say an altercation broke out among a group of people before the driver, an adult female, got into a vehicle. She reversed on Hennepin Avenue, then drove the wrong way on 5th Street, striking the group. The teenage girl was transported to Hennepin Healthcare Hospital, where she later died.

Witnesses followed the suspect as she fled the scene. Police, along with deputies from the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office and Minnesota State Patrol, apprehended her on Bryant Avenue North. She was booked into Hennepin County Jail on murder charges.

Four others sustained non-life-threatening injuries, while one person remains in critical condition. Investigators are working to determine what led to the fatal crash.

The investigation is ongoing.
