Tallahassee, Florida – Widespread rain is expected across the Florida Panhandle and Big Bend region today, with periods of steady rainfall and a chance for afternoon thunderstorms potentially impacting travel along I-10, US-27 and Highway 319 through late Friday night.

Rain will overspread the region during the morning hours and continue throughout the day. Most communities, including Tallahassee, Albany, Bainbridge and Valdosta, can expect between one-quarter inch and 1 inch of total rainfall by late tonight. Isolated areas could see locally higher amounts, especially where thunderstorms develop during the afternoon.

Storms are expected to be scattered but may briefly produce heavier downpours and occasional lightning. While severe weather is not anticipated to be widespread, drivers should prepare for reduced visibility and ponding of water on roadways during heavier bursts of rain.

Travelers along I-10 and I-75 should allow extra time for commutes, particularly during the afternoon and evening hours when rainfall rates may be highest. Urban and low-lying areas could experience minor standing water, though widespread flooding is not expected.

Despite the steady rain, this system is not projected to significantly ease longer-term dry conditions. However, the rainfall will provide beneficial moisture to area lawns and agriculture.

Rain chances will gradually decrease overnight, with improving conditions expected into the weekend. Temperatures are forecast to trend warmer in the days ahead, with highs climbing toward the 80s early next week.

Residents are encouraged to remain weather-aware through the day and monitor local updates, especially if outdoor plans are scheduled during the afternoon and evening hours.
