Grand Junction, CO – A series of six winter storms sweeping through Colorado is set to bring more heavy snow to the region through Monday morning, potentially causing travel disruptions along major mountain passes. Four storms have already passed, with two more expected to arrive, targeting northern areas from Vail Pass into Wyoming.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the next storm will deliver 12 to 18 inches of snow to Rabbit Ears Pass and 6 to 10 inches to Vail Pass between Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning. A second round of snowfall will begin late Sunday night, with an additional 5 to 10 inches expected on Rabbit Ears Pass and 3 to 6 inches on Vail Pass. Slick and icy conditions are likely on roadways, including Interstate 70.
Travelers are urged to check road closures and delays before heading out, as hazardous conditions may lead to extended travel times. Residents should prepare for limited visibility during snowfall and carry emergency supplies if driving through affected areas.
Looking ahead, the weather will begin to dry out Monday afternoon, with mostly sunny skies returning to Grand Junction. Temperatures will remain mild, with highs in the mid-40s through New Year’s Day. Beyond Monday, expect isolated snow showers along the northern Divide but calmer conditions for most of the state.
