Tampa, FL – Showers and thunderstorms are on the horizon for the Tampa Bay area as a cold front approaches this weekend. Residents should prepare for wet conditions on Sunday, followed by a gradual drop in temperatures heading into New Year’s week.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), Saturday will remain mostly sunny with a high of 81°F before showers begin after 1 p.m. A 50% chance of rain persists overnight, increasing to 70% on Sunday. Thunderstorms may develop Sunday afternoon, accompanied by winds of 8–10 mph.

The first cold front will bring mild cooling, but a second front midweek will deliver more significant temperature drops. Highs on Monday and Tuesday are expected to hover around 76°F and 77°F, but lows will dip into the 40s by Wednesday night.

Motorists should exercise caution on major roadways, such as Interstate 275 and U.S. Highway 19, as rain could reduce visibility and create slippery conditions. Outdoor plans should be adjusted accordingly, especially on Sunday, when precipitation and thunderstorms are most likely.

New Year’s Day will bring clearer skies and cooler weather, with a high of 70°F and calm winds. Residents are encouraged to take advantage of the sunny conditions midweek while dressing warmly for the cooler nights ahead.
