Joliet, IL – A 12-year-old boy in Joliet was arrested after allegedly posting a threat on Instagram, aimed at local schools. On September 16, 2024, at 3:41 p.m., police were notified about the threatening post. The threat indicated potential harm to students and spread rapidly across social media.
According to Joliet Detectives, officers quickly launched an investigation and identified the boy as the source. They located him at a relative’s home, where he admitted it was a prank. Detectives searched his belongings and bedroom but found no weapons. The boy was a student at Dirksen Junior High.
Authorities released him to a parent and referred the case to the River Valley Justice Center. In response, Joliet Police increased patrols around area schools to ensure student safety.
