St. Clair Shores, MI — A Monday afternoon outing on Lake St. Clair nearly turned tragic after a vessel capsized, leaving three people stranded in the water near the 9 Mile Road Tower.
According to the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office, the Marine Division was dispatched to the area at approximately 12:37 p.m. Monday. The incident reportedly occurred about a quarter mile east of the landmark tower in St. Clair Shores.
Patrol Boat 4 (PB4) arrived on the scene to find all three individuals still in the water. According to first responders, the victims were allegedly clinging to a passerby’s vessel that had stopped to assist before official help arrived. The Marine Division successfully retrieved all three people from the water and transported them to the 9 Mile Road boat launch.
According to the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office, the St. Clair Shores Fire Department met the group at the launch to perform medical evaluations. While the cause of the capsizing is still allegedly under investigation, authorities have not reported any serious injuries resulting from the incident.
Officials stated Monday that no additional information is available regarding the size or type of the vessel involved. The Sheriff’s Office continues to emphasize the importance of water safety and the use of life jackets as boating activity increases during the spring season.
