Spencer County, IN: Bar Dispute Leads to Shooting, Man in Critical Condition

Spencer County, IN – A bar fight at a Mariah Hill establishment early Saturday morning escalated into gunfire, leaving one man hospitalized and another in custody.

Police responded at 3:21 a.m. to The Chateau on East State Road 62 after receiving reports of a violent altercation. Investigators said Paris D. Keaton, 28, of Dale, and Rafael Barboza, 32, exchanged heated words inside the bar. The argument spilled outside, where the confrontation turned physical.

Authorities said Keaton returned inside and pointed a gun at two men. Barboza suffered gunshot wounds during the incident. Officers arrested Keaton at the scene. Barboza was rushed to Owensboro Regional Health Hospital in Kentucky, where he remains in critical condition.

Keaton faces charges of aggravated battery, pointing a firearm, criminal recklessness, and driving with a suspended license. Police confirmed Keaton is being held in the Spencer County Jail.

The investigation involved multiple agencies, including the Spencer County Sheriff’s Office and Rockport Police Department. Detective Patrick Stinson leads the case.

Officials are urging witnesses to contact local authorities with information.
