Southern Minnesota: Short-Lived Tornado With 80 MPH Winds Tracked 3 Miles Friday, No Injuries Reported

La Crosse, Wisconsin – A confirmed tornado touched down near the Minnesota-Iowa border Friday afternoon, leaving behind minor damage along a short but defined path in Mower and Dodge counties.

According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, the EF0 tornado developed at 1:46 p.m. Friday about 3 miles southwest of Oslo and tracked northeast for approximately 3.1 miles before dissipating at 1:49 p.m. Winds peaked near 80 mph during its brief lifespan.

The tornado crossed the Dodge and Mower County line, moving through rural areas southeast of Oslo. Damage was limited but included a grain silo that sustained structural impacts, along with localized debris scattered along nearby county roads.

No injuries or fatalities were reported. The tornado reached a maximum width of 75 yards, remaining relatively narrow as it moved through open farmland.

While impacts were limited, the event highlights the quick development of severe weather across southern Minnesota. Residents are urged to review severe weather safety plans and ensure alerts are enabled, especially during spring when storms can intensify rapidly.

Additional survey work is not expected for this track, but officials note that conditions can change quickly during severe weather events.
