Kalamazoo, MI – An EF-2 tornado caused significant damage across St. Joseph County, Michigan, early Tuesday morning, impacting areas close to Kalamazoo. The tornado, which developed near Howardsville around 8:19 a.m. EDT, tracked southeast toward Three Rivers, causing extensive tree and structural damage.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Northern Indiana office, this tornado marked a rare morning occurrence, with the first warning issued at 7:59 a.m. EDT. The tornado remained on the ground for 14 minutes, traveling 8.46 miles with peak winds reaching 115 mph and a maximum width of 700 yards.
The tornado caused substantial damage along its path, snapping power poles, uprooting trees, and partially destroying buildings, including a barn and a well-anchored manufactured home. Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported. Residents in the affected areas are urged to stay alert as recovery efforts continue.
