Tinley Park, IL – A 22-year-old man is expected to make a full recovery after suffering an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound Monday evening at a home in the 8400 block of West 162nd Street, according to the Tinley Park Police Department.

The incident prompted a rapid response from Tinley Park police officers, who arrived to find the man with a severe gunshot wound to his upper leg. According to the Tinley Park Police Department, officers immediately recognized the injury as life-threatening and applied a tourniquet while providing emergency medical aid.

Police also secured the firearm and ensured the scene was safe until firefighters and paramedics arrived to take over medical care.

The man was transported to Christ Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery. Police said he is now in stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery.

According to investigators, the injury appears to have resulted from an accidental discharge while the man was handling and cleaning his firearm. At this time, police said there is no evidence of foul play or criminal conduct, and the incident remains under investigation.

The Tinley Park Police Department praised the responding officers for their quick thinking and lifesaving actions.
