Nashville, TN – Dangerous heat and humidity will continue across Middle Tennessee through at least Friday, with the National Weather Service warning that heat index values could climb as high as 114 degrees during the hottest part of the day.

According to the National Weather Service in Nashville, the region is experiencing an extended period of dangerous heat that is expected to last through Friday, July 3, just ahead of the Independence Day holiday weekend.

Forecasters say afternoon high temperatures will range from 88 to 101 degrees, while humidity will push heat index values between 101 and 114 degrees. Overnight lows are only expected to fall into the 72 to 80-degree range, providing little relief from the prolonged heat.

Much of Middle Tennessee is forecast to experience Major to Extreme HeatRisk, meaning the conditions could affect anyone without effective cooling or adequate hydration. The risk is especially high for older adults, young children, outdoor workers, and those with underlying health conditions.

The National Weather Service urges residents to:

  • Stay well hydrated throughout the day.
  • Limit outdoor activities, especially between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
  • Spend time in air-conditioned buildings whenever possible, as fans alone may not provide adequate cooling during extreme heat.
  • Check on elderly neighbors, family members, and anyone without reliable access to air conditioning.
  • Never leave children or pets inside parked vehicles.

The dangerous heat is expected to persist through the workweek, and additional heat advisories or warnings could be issued as conditions evolve.

Residents are encouraged to monitor the latest forecasts from the National Weather Service and take precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses.
