Moncks Corner, SC – Two Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office deputies were injured Thursday night after their patrol vehicle was struck from behind by an alleged impaired driver in Summerville, according to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the sheriff’s office, the crash occurred just after 9:30 p.m. Thursday, July 23, 2026, near North Main Street and U.S. Highway 76. At the time of the collision, a deputy was participating in field training with her Field Training Officer.
Investigators said the marked patrol vehicle was stopped at a red light on North Main Street. As the traffic signal turned green and the deputies began to move through the intersection, their vehicle was allegedly rear-ended by another driver.
The sheriff’s office identified the driver as Treyvon Behrends Wallace, 25, of Goose Creek. According to authorities, Wallace was arrested by the South Carolina Highway Patrol and charged with Driving Under the Influence.
Both deputies were transported to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment. Officials said they sustained non-life-threatening injuries and are expected to recover.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is leading the investigation into the collision and will release any additional information as it becomes available.
In a statement, the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office thanked the community for its support and reminded motorists of the dangers of impaired driving, noting that driving under the influence places everyone on the road at risk.
The DUI charge against Wallace is an allegation, and he is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
