Houston, TX – Residents of Southeast Texas are under an Excessive Heat Warning and Heat Advisory today, with the National Weather Service (NWS) advising all to take precautions. The advisory spans from 10 AM to 10 PM, urging everyone to avoid strenuous outdoor activities and stay hydrated as temperatures are expected to climb significantly.

According to the NWS, temperatures will soar above 105°F, with heat indices potentially exceeding 113°F in some areas. The heat will be most intense across central counties, including Houston, Huntsville, and Livingston, where the heat index could reach a scorching 115°F. Vulnerable populations, including pregnant women, children, and the elderly, are especially at risk for heat-related illnesses.

The forecast for the remainder of the week indicates that the oppressive heat will persist, with daily highs hovering around 95°F to 98°F and heat indices remaining in the triple digits. Nighttime temperatures will offer little relief, only dropping to the high 70s to low 80s.

Residents are advised to limit outdoor activities, wear lightweight clothing, and check on neighbors, especially those without air conditioning. This heatwave is expected to continue through the week, with advisories likely extending as conditions evolve.
