Holly, MI – An 80-year-old Shelby Township man died after an off-road vehicle crash at Holly Oaks ORV Park on Saturday, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, which continues to investigate the fatal incident.
According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred sometime between approximately 11:45 a.m. and 2:16 p.m. Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Holly Oaks ORV Park. The Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit is assisting Parks Unit deputies with the investigation.
Preliminary investigators said the man was operating a 2022 Can-Am Outlander on the park’s trail system near the crest of a hill. As he descended, authorities said he lost control of the ORV, causing it to overturn and eject him from the vehicle.
Investigators said the rider came to rest in a crevice on the hillside while the ORV continued downhill before stopping farther below. The man suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the sheriff’s office, the victim was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Investigators do not believe alcohol or drugs were factors in the incident.
Authorities said it remains unknown how much time passed between the crash and when another park patron discovered the scene and reported it.
The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Drone Unit assisted investigators by mapping the crash scene. The investigation remains ongoing.
The victim’s identity has not yet been released by authorities.
