Detroit, MI – The US National Weather Service Detroit/Pontiac has issued a marginal risk for severe weather across southeast Michigan this afternoon and evening. Residents should be prepared as a line of strong to severe thunderstorms is expected to move through the region from approximately 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. today.

According to the NWS, the primary threats include damaging winds of 60 mph or greater and large hail up to one inch in diameter. Heavy rainfall is also possible, which could lead to localized flooding in low-lying and urban areas. The most favorable window for severe weather is during the late afternoon and early evening.

The NWS recommends securing outdoor objects that could become projectiles in high winds and ensuring that drainage systems are clear to handle potential heavy rain. Motorists should be cautious of slick roads and reduced visibility during the storms.

The storm system follows a period of warm, humid weather in the region, which has created conditions conducive to severe thunderstorms. Authorities will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary.
