Greenville, South Carolina – Isolated thunderstorms may pop up across the Carolinas and northeast Georgia this afternoon, but the overall threat of severe weather remains low heading into Friday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, storm activity will be more scattered today, a noticeable drop in intensity from Thursday’s heavier weather. High temperatures are expected to reach the low to mid-80s across most of the region, staying close to seasonal norms. Storm chances are primarily confined to parts of western North Carolina, Upstate South Carolina, and northeast Georgia between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Areas like Asheville, Anderson, and Athens could experience brief downpours and gusty winds, but widespread impacts are not expected. Most of the I-85 corridor should stay dry, and travel conditions will generally remain favorable. However, drivers are encouraged to remain weather-aware during the afternoon and early evening.

Residents are advised to take advantage of today’s calmer conditions before clouds and cooler air arrive over the weekend. No weather watches or warnings are currently in effect, though updates will be issued if storm development intensifies.

Storm chances return Saturday night into Sunday, when temperatures drop into the 70s with increased cloud cover across the region.
