Moncks Corner, South Carolina – Boaters on Lake Moultrie should secure vessels before 6 a.m. Thursday as southwest winds strengthen to 20 knots, pushing rough waves across open water through late afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, a Lake Wind Advisory remains in effect for Inland Berkeley County from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Winds will range from 15 to 20 knots, with gusts reaching 25 knots at times. Those speeds can quickly build choppy conditions, especially across the broader central and southern portions of the lake.

Communities including Goose Creek and Moncks Corner sit near the advisory zone, and marinas along the western shoreline may see the strongest crosswinds by late morning. Small craft, including fishing boats and personal watercraft, face the highest risk of capsizing in sudden gusts.

Officials urge boaters to delay non-essential trips and double-check mooring lines. Anyone heading onto the lake should wear a life jacket and monitor changing conditions closely.

Winds are expected to ease after 5 p.m., but additional advisories could be issued if gusty conditions persist into the evening.
