South Bend Suspect Arrested Following Stolen Vehicle Chase in Indiana

Porter County, IN — A South Bend man was arrested Saturday after a high-speed chase involving a stolen truck. The incident occurred around 1:15 p.m. when Indiana State Police troopers patrolling U.S. 20 near State Road 49 spotted a white 2022 Dodge Ram reported stolen. The driver, identified as 41-year-old Benjamin K. Vanynck, allegedly refused to stop, sparking a pursuit.

According to Indiana State Police, the chase continued on U.S. 20 before Vanynck veered onto County Road 1400 North. There, the truck abruptly stopped, and Vanynck fled into a nearby wooded area. Troopers Payonk and Jones chased the suspect and took him into custody in the woods.

Vanynck faces multiple charges, including resisting law enforcement, unauthorized control of a vehicle, and reckless driving. He remains in Porter County Jail, awaiting formal charges from the prosecutor’s office. Vanynck is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
