Dixon, IL — Illinois Route 26 will see bridge repairs beginning Monday, Sept. 9, south of Amboy. The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announced that weather permitting, work will focus on the bridge over Coon Creek.

The project involves joint replacement and deck overlay, with traffic reduced to one lane, controlled by temporary signals. Work is expected to conclude by the end of October.

Motorists should prepare for delays and consider alternate routes when possible. Extra caution is urged in work zones, with attention to posted speed limits and road signs.

According to IDOT, this project is part of a broader plan to improve over 3,200 miles of Illinois highways in the next six years. The state is investing $33.2 billion in Rebuild Illinois, which aims to enhance transportation safety and infrastructure statewide.

Drivers should stay informed about the project and other updates through IDOT’s traveler information map and District 2’s social media channels.
