Shreveport, LA – A sharp late-season cold snap sent temperatures plunging into the 20s Tuesday morning, tying or breaking records across northwest Louisiana and the Ark-La-Tex, with lingering impacts expected through midweek.

According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, several cities hit or exceeded record lows, including Shreveport at 25 degrees and Monroe at 26 degrees. Texarkana tied its record at 28 degrees, while Tyler, Texas, dipped to 28 degrees, surpassing its previous mark. El Dorado fell to 23 degrees, well below its record threshold.

The sudden freeze created hazardous early travel conditions, especially on elevated roadways like Interstate 20 bridges and portions of I-49, where patchy frost developed before sunrise. Local agencies urged drivers to slow down during the morning commute and watch for slick spots.

Beyond travel, residents across Caddo and Ouachita parishes faced risks to exposed pipes and outdoor plants. Officials recommend insulating pipes, bringing pets indoors, and checking on vulnerable neighbors.

Temperatures will gradually rebound by Wednesday afternoon, but another chilly start remains possible before a steady warming trend takes hold. Additional advisories could be issued if overnight lows trend colder than expected.

Five Day Forecast for Shreveport, Louisiana
Wednesday: Sunny, morning freeze, high near 55
Thursday: Warmer, mostly sunny, high near 65
Friday: Partly cloudy, high near 70
Saturday: Mild, increasing clouds, high near 74
