Chicago, IL – Isolated to scattered showers and storms are forecast for this afternoon, primarily south of I-80. The main hazards will be gusty winds and localized heavy rainfall, which may lead to minor flooding of ditches, low spots, and other flood-prone areas.
According to the National Weather Service, the threat period extends from 1 PM to 9 PM CDT, with the greatest chances south of about I-80. Residents in areas including Kankakee, Joliet, and Valparaiso are advised to prepare for potential weather disruptions.
The National Weather Service highlights that north of the shaded area, a few showers and isolated storms are still possible. Gusty winds may down small branches or move light objects, and localized downpours could result in flooding ditches and low-lying areas.
Residents are advised to move indoors if they hear thunder and use caution when driving in heavy rain. The storms are expected to move to the east-northeast at less than 10 mph, prolonging their impact in some areas.
