Salt Lake City, UT – The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued warnings for severe weather across Utah on Sunday, August 18. The western half of the state is expected to experience strong to severe thunderstorms, while central and southern Utah face an increased risk of flash flooding.
According to the NWS Salt Lake City, thunderstorms are forecast to develop throughout the day, with the risk intensifying in the afternoon. These storms may bring gusty winds, heavy rain, and hail. Residents are advised to secure outdoor items and stay indoors if thunder is heard.
In addition, monsoon moisture has increased the threat of flash flooding across southern and central Utah. Areas at higher risk include slot canyons, normally dry washes, and regions with recent burn scars. The flash flood threat is expected to be highest Sunday afternoon and evening.
