Maple Park, IL – A school bus carrying three students was involved in an accident with an SUV early Monday morning on Meredith Road, south of Route 64, in Virgil Township. The Kane County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene at approximately 6:42 a.m. and reported that no injuries occurred in the incident.

According to the Kane County Sheriff’s Office, the bus, owned by Kaneland School District #302, was southbound on Meredith Road when it signaled to turn into the parking lot of SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church. A Ford Explorer, attempting to pass the bus in a no-passing zone, struck the front driver-side wheel and bumper of the school bus, disabling the SUV.

Emergency responders from the Maple Park Fire Department assessed all involved parties, who signed releases of treatment. The school bus driver and students were transferred to another bus.

A witness confirmed that the school bus had its flashing lights and turn signal activated before the crash. The driver of the Ford Explorer, a 58-year-old male from Belvidere, received a citation for passing in a no-passing zone. The Kaneland Community Unit School District’s Transportation Division provided video footage of the accident.
