Sussex County, DE – A Delaware firefighter lost his life after a vehicle collision involving a utility pole on Lewes-Georgetown Highway on August 13, 2024. Thomas Berry III, a 23-year-old volunteer firefighter with the Georgetown and Ellendale Fire Companies, was killed while assisting at the scene.

The incident occurred when a Chevrolet Malibu, attempting to pass a Toyota Camry, sideswiped the vehicle and veered off the road, striking a utility pole.
