Albuquerque, NM – Freezing temperatures settling in before sunrise are putting plants, pipes, and early spring growth at immediate risk across much of New Mexico early Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service in Albuquerque, a Freeze Warning remains in effect until 9 a.m. MDT for central, northern, and eastern parts of the state. Temperatures are expected to range between 22 and 28 degrees, with slightly warmer readings in the mid-30s limited to Albuquerque’s Northeast Heights.
The cold snap stretches from the Middle Rio Grande Valley, including Albuquerque, to Santa Fe, Espanola, and across eastern plains communities like Clovis and Tucumcari. Rural valleys and higher elevation basins may experience the most prolonged freezing conditions through sunrise.
Residents should act quickly to cover sensitive plants and protect exposed plumbing by insulating or allowing faucets to drip. Agricultural areas could see damage to crops already emerging during an early spring warm-up.
Temperatures will rebound after mid-morning Saturday, but additional advisories remain possible as fluctuating spring conditions continue across the region.
