California – Bright sun already warms San Francisco this morning, but inland neighborhoods will heat up sharply by afternoon, pushing toward the 90s as an early spring heat surge builds across the Bay Area. The shift feels sudden, especially away from the coast, where relief fades quickly by midday.

According to the National Weather Service in San Francisco, a Heat Advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m. Friday, covering the Bay Area and Central Coast. Interior valleys are expected to reach the low to mid-90s, while coastal areas climb into the 80s. Officials warn that mild nighttime lows in the upper 50s to low 60s will offer only limited cooling, especially at higher elevations.

Communities including San Jose, Santa Rosa, and inland East Bay cities will see the hottest conditions. Even San Francisco will warm into the mid to upper 80s during peak afternoon hours. Expect rising demand on cooling systems and crowded waterfront areas as residents seek relief.

If you’re traveling, plan for heat glare and fatigue along U.S. 101 and I-80 during the afternoon commute. Limit strenuous activity to early hours. Drink water frequently and check on neighbors without reliable cooling. Never leave children or pets in parked cars, as temperatures climb rapidly.

This early-season heat peaks Friday, aligning with the start of spring, before a noticeable cooldown arrives into the weekend. Additional advisories may be issued if heat lingers inland.

Five Day Outlook for San Francisco, California:
Thursday: Sunny, high near 88°F.
Friday: Sunny, high near 85°F.
Saturday: Partly sunny, high near 77°F.
Sunday: Mostly sunny, high near 72°F.
Monday: Mostly sunny, high near 70°F.
