Cheyenne, WY – Strong crosswinds could make travel dangerous along key Wyoming highways within hours Wednesday, especially for truckers and high-profile vehicles crossing the Laramie Range.

According to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne, a High Wind Watch takes effect Wednesday morning and lasts through Wednesday afternoon, with sustained west winds of 25 to 35 mph and gusts reaching up to 60 mph. The most impacted areas include Interstate 80 near Arlington and the Summit, along with Interstate 25 near Bordeaux.

Transportation impacts are expected to be significant across southeast Wyoming’s wind-prone corridors. Areas like Elk Mountain, Vedauwoo, and Buford often see sudden, powerful gusts that can tip lightweight trailers or force road restrictions. WYDOT may issue rolling closures or advisories if gusts approach critical thresholds.

Drivers of campers, semis, and empty trailers should delay travel or use extreme caution, especially during peak wind hours late Wednesday morning into early afternoon. Keeping both hands on the wheel and reducing speed can help maintain control.

Conditions are expected to ease by late Wednesday, but additional advisories remain possible as spring wind patterns persist across the region.
