Utah – Frost clings to lawns and car windshields this morning as temperatures hover near freezing, creating a sharp spring setback across Salt Lake City and surrounding valleys.

According to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City, a Freeze Warning remains in effect through midday, with widespread lows falling into the upper 20s. A second round of freezing temperatures is expected again late tonight into Saturday morning, extending the risk to sensitive vegetation and outdoor plumbing .

Salt Lake City, West Valley City, and Sandy are seeing calm but cold conditions early, with patchy slick spots possible on untreated surfaces. Gardeners should act now. Cover plants, bring potted vegetation indoors, and protect irrigation systems before temperatures dip again.

Light snow showers are possible early, but skies begin to clear by midday, allowing temperatures to recover into the upper 40s. Even so, the air will feel brisk, especially in shaded areas and during the morning hours.

Conditions improve quickly into Saturday, with sunshine returning and highs climbing into the low 60s. A steady warmup follows Sunday, reaching the mid-70s, and near 80 degrees by early next week as a dry pattern settles in.

The rapid shift from freezing mornings to warm afternoons highlights typical spring volatility across northern Utah. Additional advisories could be issued if temperatures trend colder than expected.
