Colorado – Wet snow and rain are already mixing across the Front Range, and roads could turn slick fast as temperatures hover near freezing through the afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Denver, a passing system is bringing rain changing to snow today, with up to a half inch of precipitation and wind gusts reaching 25 to 30 mph. Light snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches is possible along the I-25 corridor, while foothills could see 3 to 6 inches before conditions improve later in the day .
Denver, Aurora, and Lakewood will deal with wet roads early, but slushy patches may develop as temperatures dip. Bridges and overpasses along I-25 and I-70 are especially vulnerable. Plan extra time for travel and expect changing conditions through the afternoon.
By late evening, skies begin to clear, but temperatures drop sharply into the upper teens and low 20s. That raises a strong risk of flash freezing as leftover moisture refreezes. Untreated roads, sidewalks, and parking lots could become icy by early morning.
A Freeze Warning is in effect through early Saturday, with lows between 18 and 24 degrees. Protect outdoor plants, cover sensitive vegetation, and take steps to prevent pipes from freezing.
Sunshine returns Saturday with highs near 59 degrees, followed by a rapid warmup into the 70s by Sunday and near 80 by early next week.
More advisories may follow as conditions evolve. Are roads icy in your neighborhood yet?
