Rockford, IL – A Loves Park man is facing multiple charges after a hit-and-run crash at East State Street and Alpine Road on Tuesday afternoon, according to Rockford Police.
The incident happened around 3:22 p.m. on September 9, when officers say a vehicle driven by Rickie Traeger, 46, was traveling eastbound on East State Street at a high speed and in an erratic manner. According to witnesses, Traeger reportedly stopped in traffic, accelerated, changed lanes, and appeared to intentionally strike another vehicle. The impact caused two additional vehicles to collide.
Police said Traeger then exited his car, confronted one of the drivers, and left the scene. A short time later, officers located his vehicle on North Mulford Road and took him into custody.
During the investigation, Rockford Police detectives allegedly recovered more than 70 pills listed as a controlled substance, along with cannabis. The Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office has since authorized multiple charges.
Traeger is facing counts of reckless driving, aggravated battery, felony criminal damage, leaving the scene of a personal injury crash, and possession of controlled substances and cannabis. He was lodged in the Winnebago County Jail.
Authorities noted that additional charges may follow as the case develops. Police are asking anyone with further information to contact the Rockford Police Department or submit an anonymous tip through Rockford Area Crime Stoppers.
