Addison, IL – Drivers in Addison and across DuPage County can expect to see an increase in traffic enforcement this month as part of a statewide safety initiative.

According to the Addison Police Department, officers are actively participating in the 2024/2025 STEP Traffic Enforcement Program, funded by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT). The campaign began September 5 and continues through Monday, September 30, 2025.

The primary focus of the effort is cracking down on speeding violations. Police said secondary enforcement will also target seat belt use, distracted driving, and impaired driving. The department emphasized that the program’s goal is to reduce crashes and keep roadways safe for all travelers.

Officials encouraged motorists to follow four simple steps: eliminate distractions, drive within posted speed limits, wear seat belts at all times, and never drive impaired.

The enforcement period aligns with IDOT’s broader initiative to reduce roadway fatalities and improve traffic safety across Illinois. Drivers should plan for increased patrols and checkpoints throughout the month, particularly in high-traffic areas.

“This campaign is about protecting lives,” Addison Police said in their announcement. “Responsible driving starts with you.”
