Houston, TX – Strong winds and dry air are creating dangerous wildfire conditions across southeast Texas, prompting a Red Flag Warning until 7 p.m. Tuesday for areas west of Interstate 45, including Houston, Brazos, Montgomery, and Fort Bend counties.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Houston/Galveston, wind gusts between 30 to 45 mph and humidity levels as low as 15-20% will make any fire that starts difficult to control. Although fuel conditions are somewhat limiting, the risk remains high due to extreme weather factors.

Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning and any activities that could spark flames, such as grilling or discarding cigarette butts. Fire departments are on high alert as dry conditions and strong winds could cause rapid fire spread.

Winds are expected to weaken this evening, with humidity levels gradually increasing, improving conditions overnight. However, fire danger remains a concern in the coming days.

For updates, residents should monitor local emergency alerts and follow guidance from fire officials.
