Rantoul, IL – Police have identified the suspect involved in a hit-and-run crash that injured a 16-year-old girl earlier this month.
Authorities said the incident occurred on Nov. 7 at 4:16 p.m. at Champaign Avenue (US 136) and Chanute Street. The teen was crossing in a crosswalk when a vehicle traveling westbound struck her and fled the scene. Emergency responders transported the victim to Carle Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Police used surveillance footage and license plate readers to track the suspect vehicle. On Nov. 20, officers found the vehicle in a garage on Marcia Drive in Rantoul. The vehicle, which sustained damage consistent with the crash, was seized.
By Nov. 25, officers identified the driver as Jamie Diego-Martin, 41, of Rantoul. Authorities issued an arrest warrant for leaving the scene of a personal injury crash.
