Colorado Springs, CO – Temperatures dropping into the teens and 20s early Saturday are creating an immediate risk to crops, plumbing, and outdoor vegetation across southeast Colorado.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, a Freeze Warning remains in effect until 8 a.m. MDT Saturday for a wide stretch of the plains, including Colorado Springs, Pueblo, Trinidad, La Junta, and Lamar. Lows have fallen into the teens along Monument Hill, with most other areas ranging through the 20s—cold enough to cause widespread plant damage during a critical early growing period.
The threat does not end this morning. A Freeze Watch is already in place from Saturday evening through Sunday morning, when temperatures are expected to drop again into the mid-20s to lower 30s across the region. This second round could further impact crops and landscaping that survive the initial freeze.
Communities from Canon City to Springfield should take immediate steps to protect sensitive plants and ensure exposed pipes are insulated. Areas near I-25, including Walsenburg and Trinidad, may see repeated freeze stress on vegetation through the weekend.
Cold conditions will ease during the day Saturday, but additional alerts are likely as another round of freezing temperatures develops overnight into Sunday.
