Kansas City, MO – Snowfall and freezing temperatures are creating hazardous travel conditions for Kansas City commuters Friday morning. A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m., with light snow expected to taper off around sunrise. Drivers should allow extra time and proceed cautiously on slick roadways.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), overnight snow accumulations reached up to two inches across parts of east-central Kansas and western Missouri. Temperatures are hovering near 30°F this morning, keeping roads icy and visibility low. Highway corridors such as I-70 and I-435 may be particularly treacherous for drivers.

Looking ahead, the weekend brings a mix of conditions. Friday afternoon will see a high near 31°F with mostly cloudy skies. Saturday offers some relief, with partly sunny weather and a high of 33°F, but nighttime lows will drop to the mid-20s. Sunday is expected to be dry but bitterly cold, with daytime highs near 20°F and lows plunging into the single digits.

The extended forecast shows Monday bringing sunny skies and slightly warmer temperatures, though the high will only reach 20°F. Another round of frigid weather is likely next week.

Residents should monitor updates from the NWS for changes to the forecast. Those traveling are advised to check road conditions by visiting traveler.modot.org in Missouri or dialing 511 in Kansas.

Be sure to bundle up and drive safely to avoid delays or accidents during this winter weather event.
